Community reuse scheme

SCC Community Reuse

Refurbished IT for charities that need it

We collect retired business equipment, refurbish it, and pass it on — free of charge — to registered charities across North Yorkshire and nearby areas.

How requesting works

  1. Browse what's available — see what we currently have, described by what it is good for, not technical specifications.
  2. Send an enquiry — pick an item and tell us about your charity and how you would use it.
  3. We verify your charity — we check registration details and that the request is genuine.
  4. Collection or delivery — if approved, we arrange handover. Stock is limited, so not every enquiry can be fulfilled straight away.

How we verify charity requests

We want equipment to reach genuine charities, so every request is checked before anything is sent out.

  1. Registration — we look up your charity number on the Charity Commission register.
  2. Contact — we confirm the person requesting equipment is linked to that charity (work email or a quick phone call).
  3. Purpose — we check the equipment is for charitable use, not resale.

This usually takes a few minutes on our side. We aim to email you within 3–5 working days with a yes, a place on the waitlist, or a brief explanation if we cannot help this time.

We do not publish charity names or share your enquiry with anyone else.

Who this is for

Registered charities

If your charity needs IT but cannot stretch to new equipment — whether you support families, run a wildlife sanctuary, or manage community services — browse what we have and send an enquiry.

Individuals and families

If you are an individual or family in need — for example leaving a difficult situation at home — we work through partner organisations rather than this enquiry form.

Please contact a local support charity or community organisation that can refer you. Partner details will be listed here as our network grows.

What to expect from the equipment

  • Data wiped and device tested before handover
  • Windows installed and ready for everyday use
  • Charger included with laptops where available
  • Donated as-is — goodwill support only, not a commercial warranty

Businesses and households often have retired laptops, desktops, monitors, and printers that could help a local charity — but kit that is too old or damaged cannot be reused. Our donation guide explains what we gladly accept and what we usually have to turn away.

Common questions

Does our charity have to pay?

No. Equipment is donated free of charge to registered charities that pass our verification checks. You may need to arrange collection or accept delivery within our service area.

Can we request more than one item?

You can enquire about more than one item, but stock is limited. We usually start with one or two items per charity so we can help as many organisations as possible.

What if nothing is available right now?

The available page lists only what we have ready today. If nothing is shown, all current stock has been allocated — check back soon or email us and we can note your interest for the next batch.

Where do you deliver?

We focus on North Yorkshire and nearby areas, including Teesside and the East Coast. If you are outside that area, collection from the Stokesley area may still be possible — tell us in your enquiry.

Can we donate old equipment to you?

Yes — businesses and households can donate retired laptops, desktops, monitors, and printers. Visit the Donate equipment page for what we can use and what is too old to refurbish.
