Give kit a second life
Donate retired IT equipment
Businesses and households across North Yorkshire and nearby often have laptops, desktops, monitors, and printers that are no longer needed but still useful. We refurbish suitable equipment and pass it on — free of charge — to registered charities.
What we are glad to receive
We are looking for equipment that still has a few good years left for everyday charity use — email, documents, web browsing, and video calls. You do not need to know the specifications; the guide below is in plain English.
Laptops
- Powers on and holds a charge (or works on mains)
- Charger included if possible
- Up to 10 years old — still fine for office-style work
- Screen and keyboard in reasonable condition
Desktop computers
- Powers on and runs without constant crashing
- Complete towers preferred; tell us if cables or keyboard/mouse are included
- Up to 10 years old — still usable for everyday admin
Monitors
- Working display, no cracks or heavy damage
- HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA connection
- Stand included if you have it
Printers
- Powers on and prints a test page
- Ink or toner does not need to be full, but the device should be working
- Standard office printers — not large commercial copiers
What we usually cannot use
We have limited time and storage, so we focus on kit charities can rely on. Equipment that is too old or too worn is unlikely to be accepted — we would rather say no upfront than take something that never gets reused.
- Devices that cannot run a supported version of Windows (too slow or too old for everyday use)
- Laptops with missing or dead batteries and no charger
- Physically damaged kit — cracked screens, broken hinges, leaking batteries
- Very old tablets, phones, or niche hardware we cannot refurbish for charity admin
- Printers that jam, error constantly, or need expensive repairs
- Equipment with outstanding finance, asset tags you are not cleared to remove, or licensing we cannot transfer
Not sure? Send a quick email with the make, approximate age, and a photo if you can. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth offering.
Business and home donations
Businesses
Replacing a fleet of laptops? Clearing out an office? We can often collect multiple items from organisations in North Yorkshire, Teesside, and the surrounding area.
- Tell us how many devices and what type
- Let us know if they are still logged in or managed by your IT — we can discuss handover
- We wipe all storage before reuse
Homes
Upgraded your personal laptop or cleared out a home office? A single working device in good condition can still help a local charity.
- Sign out of personal accounts and remove any passwords you can before handover
- Include the charger and any accessories you no longer need
- Drop-off or collection may be possible — ask when you get in touch
What happens next
- You get in touch — email or call with a brief description of what you have.
- We confirm — we let you know if the equipment is suitable and arrange collection or drop-off.
- We wipe and test — storage is securely erased and the device is checked.
- A charity benefits — refurbished kit goes to a registered charity that needs it.

Donor questions
Do you collect from businesses and homes?
We are based in North Yorkshire and can often arrange collection for businesses and households nearby. Get in touch with what you have and where you are — we will let you know if we can help.
Will you wipe data from donated devices?
Yes. We securely wipe storage on every device we accept before refurbishing it. If you are a business, tell us if you need anything noted for your own records — we can discuss on a case-by-case basis.
What if my equipment is too old?
If it cannot run a supported version of Windows or is too slow for everyday charity use, we may not be able to take it. We would rather be upfront than accept kit that never reaches a good home.
Can I get a receipt or certificate of data destruction?
For business donations we can usually provide a simple acknowledgement. Formal certificates of destruction are not standard, but ask when you get in touch and we will tell you what we can offer.
